Becoming a Builder
What a crazy week. Just arrived back home and it’s 2.32 am. We have just been recording some guitars with Sveinung in a large stair well in an office block in Watford. Great fun – lot’s of natural reverb to play with! But this week I have taken on a new identity.. I’ve become a builder..
Dan is renovating a house that he has bought and I’m helping him do it. I’ve never done any building work before, but I’m quite enjoying it. It’s like I’ve entered a new realm, become a different person and joined a community all at the same time. People talk to me differently, look at me like I’m intruding on their Sainsburys shopping experience and other tradesman now accept me as a part of their special club. Today this got me thinking about how much we can be changed and affected by the environment around us. I mean today I ate a bacon and egg roll for breakfast, had a portion of chips and a beer for lunch, some chocolate to keep me going and just had some crisps and a fizzy drink before bed. This is not anything like what I would normally eat. I’m rambling on.. but at the end of a long day it all comes down to making sure that I’m building my life on that which will last forever. The temporary can disappear or change in an instant. A bit like my career as a builder. When everything changes am I still the same person? It’s good to know who we are, that can be the start of something secure and eternal. Time for BED!!
